Day 08a Stone Forest

The Stone Foest is an 80ha area of karst limestone pillars, needles and crags. It si 126km southeast of Kunming. The area was once an ocean and as the water withdrew they left a limestone sea bed that rose to the surface. Erosion by wind and rain sculpted the stone into its present petrified forms. The main scenic spots are the
the Greater and Lesser stone forests. There are a good variety of conformations stelae, cliffs and apices here, some of which look like phoenixes, elephants and rhinoceros.
