Day 08b Jiu Xiang

The Jiuxiang Scenic Spot occupies an area of about 20 square kilometers. Jiuxiang is also home of the Yi ethnic group. There are five attractions in the area. We visited the Diehong (Stacked Rainbows) Bridge scenic area, which is particularly famous for the karst caves, the twin waterfalls and the Fairy Padi Field, a huge natural stone dam cluster.

From the entrance, you take a lift 120m down to the Yincui Gorge (Photo 2). After exiting from the lift, you will be led to a boat ride of part of the Yincui Gorge. The boat will return to the same spot, from which you walk through a narrow cave, with the river gushing below you to the White Elephant Cave. In the cave there is a hall with an area of about 2000 square meters, from where you can see a stone that looks like a lion (Photo 3). After exiting from the White Elephant Cave you enters into the Goddess Cave, which has the most exquisite stalactites and stalagmites among all the caves in the area (Photos 4 to 7). After the Goddess Cave you enters the biggest cave in the area which contains two famous features, the twin waterfalls and the Fairy Padi Field (Photo 8). The last cave is known as Bat Cave. From the Bat Cave you take a chairlift back to the entrace. The chairlift is quite unnerving on certain stretches, as you are nearly a hundred meters above ground on a chair with only a rod below to support your legs.
