Day 05 Mingyong Glacier

Mingyong Glacier is a large glacier fed by Mount Kawagebo and flows about 12km into the forest at around 2900m. It is said that the glacier retreated by 200m in four years due to global warming.

To get to the glacier, one can rent a mule at the foot of the glacier valley, near Mingyong village and the trip takes about 1hr one-way. It is not advisible to walk up, as the trek is steep and one will be too tire to enjoy the spectacular view up there after the streneous climb.

The glacier is magnificant, the largest I have seen to-date. Though it would have been much better Mount Kawagebo had not been hiding behind clouds.
